AA Rano to Launch Nigeria’s First Fully Unmanned Petrol Outlets
By Naija Enquirer Staff
A major shift is underway in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry as AA Rano Nigeria moves to establish the country’s first fully unmanned petrol stations.
The initiative, which marks a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Nigeria’s energy retail sector, is being executed in partnership with Petrosoft Limited, a Nigerian technology company specialising in downstream oil and gas business management systems.
Under the partnership, Petrosoft will deploy fully automated fuel station technology across AA Rano’s nationwide network, enabling round-the-clock, self-service fueling without human attendants.
The project is scheduled to commence in January 2026 and is expected to redefine the fueling experience for Nigerian consumers by offering 24/7 access, eliminating human error, and ensuring complete transparency in fuel dispensing.
By leveraging Petrosoft’s indigenous, cutting-edge solutions, AA Rano said it is positioning itself as a leader in operational efficiency and customer-focused innovation within the downstream petroleum sector.
Intelligent Automation Driving Efficiency
Petrosoft Limited, a leading provider of downstream oil and gas technology solutions, will deploy its proprietary SmartPump technology to power the unmanned facilities.
The technology suite will cover the full spectrum of fuel management operations, including:
- Retail Automation: Fully integrated systems enabling self-service refueling, contactless payments and real-time dispenser control, ensuring customers receive exactly the volume they pay for.
- Corporate Fuel Management: Specialised solutions for fleet fueling with automatic vehicle identification, allowing businesses to track fuel consumption, prevent unauthorised usage and simplify reconciliation.
- Inventory and Tank Monitoring: Advanced Automatic Tank Gauging (ATG) and cloud-based monitoring systems designed to prevent fuel theft, detect leaks and maintain optimal stock levels across all locations.
Speaking on the initiative, AA Rano’s General Manager, Retail, Mr Mohammed Sule, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and service excellence.
“Our commitment to excellence and innovation led us to Petrosoft. By introducing unmanned, automated stations, we are not just adopting technology; we are setting a new standard for reliability and speed in the Nigerian downstream sector. This project ensures our customers can fuel up at any time with total confidence,” he said.
Also commenting, Petrosoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Joshua Denila, described the collaboration as a landmark moment for the industry.
“We are proud to partner with AA Rano on this historic project. Our solutions are 100 per cent locally developed but meet global standards for IoT and automation. From retail outlets to large-scale corporate fueling hubs, Petrosoft’s mission is to eliminate inefficiencies and maximise profitability for operators while delivering a world-class experience to end-users,” Denila said.
The introduction of unmanned petrol stations is expected to set a new benchmark for efficiency, transparency and customer convenience in Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas sector.
