The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) are set to deepen collaboration to drive national growth ahead of the Society’s Annual Conference scheduled for 8–11 September 2025 in Abuja.

Leading a delegation of Governing Council members and the FCT Chapter Chairman, NES National President, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, paid a courtesy visit to the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, at the Service’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, 13 August 2025.

CGC Adeniyi underscored the synergy between both institutions, noting that while the NES offers evidence-based research and policy recommendations, the NCS plays a pivotal role in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and the enforcement of fiscal policies that shape the economy. He stressed the need to align research outputs with operational realities at Nigeria’s borders to strengthen policy efficiency and trade competitiveness.

Prof. Adenikinju formally invited the CGC to participate in the forthcoming conference, adding that Customs’ unique access to trade, revenue, and cross-border activity data makes it a crucial partner in designing sound economic policies.

The NES President also announced the CGC’s nomination for the 2025 Distinguished Public Service Award (DPSNES), in recognition of his leadership in modernising Customs operations, boosting revenue collection, and implementing innovative trade facilitation measures that support economic stability and growth.

Bottom Line: By tightening the link between economic research and border operations, Customs and NES aim to deliver smarter policies, stronger compliance, and a more competitive trade environment for Nigeria.
