The Executive Vice President, Business Services at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe, has emphasized the vital role of industrial harmony in meeting Nigeria’s oil production goals.

Speaking at the 2025 Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) Energy and Labour Summit (PEALS) in Abuja, Mbakwe presented a paper titled: “Exploring the Link Between Industrial Harmony in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry and Attaining National Production Target.”

She noted that collaboration among labour unions, the oil and gas sector, and the government is essential for sustaining production growth, especially as Nigeria faces global energy transition challenges and domestic economic pressures.

“Amidst global energy transition and domestic economic challenges, collaboration between labour, the oil and gas industry, and the government remains critical to achieving Nigeria’s production goals,” Mbakwe stated.

The EVP commended NNPC Ltd.’s in-house unions for maintaining peace through constructive dialogue, stressing that such cooperation has been key to ensuring operational stability across the company.

“We commend our in-house unions for maintaining industrial harmony through constructive and meaningful engagement,” she added.

Mbakwe reaffirmed that NNPC Ltd. is committed to workforce development, operational excellence, and stakeholder partnerships as part of its strategy to align with national production targets.

Her message aligned with the PEALS Summit’s central theme, which underscores industrial harmony as a catalyst for building resilience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and ensuring long-term energy security.

The summit gathered policymakers, labour leaders, and industry stakeholders to deliberate on strengthening labour-industry relations for Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global energy market.
