Kogi State, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality and inclusiveness by hosting the 2025 North Central Pre-Council Technical Zonal Consultative Education & Policy Sensitization Workshop at the Government House, Lokoja.

This historic event,the first of its kind in the state served as a preparatory engagement ahead of the 25th National Council on Women Affairs, bringing together stakeholders to deliberate on advancing women’s rights, empowerment, and welfare across the North Central region.

Breaking New Ground for Women’s Empowerment

The workshop spotlighted Kogi’s growing role as a hub for gender-focused initiatives, with emphasis on uniting women across the zone and promoting policies that strengthen their social and economic independence.

“This marks a milestone in Kogi’s history and demonstrates our administration’s unwavering commitment to building an inclusive society where women play central roles in governance, law, and development,” said Governor Ododo.

Reforms and Institutional Support

The Ododo administration has recorded significant strides in expanding women’s representation in the legislature and political offices. Beyond politics, Kogi State has established a Sexual Assault Referral Centre to support survivors, while strengthening laws such as the Child Rights Law, the Disability Law, and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.

These reforms highlight the state’s resolve to not only empower women but also protect vulnerable groups from exploitation and abuse.

Commendation from Stakeholders

The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatimah Momoh, lauded the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs for selecting Kogi as host, describing it as a recognition of the state’s progressive policies on women’s issues.

She further encouraged participants to explore the state’s cultural and economic potentials, underscoring the role of women as key drivers of local development.
