Lekoil Nigeria Limited has officially commissioned the Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State a major milestone that marks a new era for the indigenous oil and gas company.
The event, graced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri), underscores the administration’s ongoing reforms to expand Nigeria’s oil production capacity and drive sustainable economic growth.
A Symbol of Indigenous Progress
According to Lekoil, the new Otakikpo terminal is more than an export facility — it represents progress, credibility, and the determination of Nigerian producers to compete effectively on the global stage.
“The commissioning of the Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal validates our commitment to building lasting value as an indigenous producer — delivering our crude reliably while supporting host communities and Nigeria’s energy ambitions,” Lekoil CEO, Lekan Akinyanmi, said.
He described the project as a proud and defining moment for the company, appreciating the Federal Government and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for fostering an enabling business environment for indigenous operators.
Strengthening Indigenous Capacity
Lekoil, in partnership with Green Energy International Limited, has demonstrated that Nigerian-owned oil producers can operate at world-class standards — enhancing community development while contributing meaningfully to national energy growth.
The Otakikpo terminal is expected to boost the efficiency of crude evacuation from the Otakikpo field (PML 11), a prolific oil zone in the Niger Delta basin. The facility is equipped to ensure safe, transparent, and efficient crude export operations, thereby improving Nigeria’s crude output reliability.
Commitment to Energy Security
With this new infrastructure, Lekoil is positioned to maximise the potential of its assets while maintaining a strong commitment to host communities and environmental sustainability.
“This milestone underscores Lekoil’s place as a responsible operator committed to Nigeria’s energy security and economic progress. It marks a bold step in our vision to be Africa’s leading exploration and production company,” Akinyanmi concluded.
The commissioning of the Otakikpo terminal is widely viewed as a positive signal for Nigeria’s upstream oil sector, affirming the role of indigenous companies in driving industrial growth and reinforcing confidence in the country’s energy future.
