Shell Showcases Energy Impact, Wins Award at NAICE 2025
Shell has showcased its role in Nigeria’s energy industry at the 2025 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) conference in Lagos, receiving an award for the $5 billion Bonga North Final Investment Decision (FID) project.
Shell Recognised for Bonga North Development
At the opening ceremony of the Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE), Shell was honoured for the Bonga North FID. The deep-water project is estimated to produce over 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe), peaking at 110,000 barrels per day.
“We’re proud of the tangible value our projects bring to Nigeria,” said Marno de Jong, Executive Vice President and Country Chair for Shell in Nigeria. “Through taxes, contracts, and social investments, our commitment remains strong.”
Shell’s Presence at the Exhibition
Shell’s exhibition stand featured several key businesses, including:
- Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo)
- Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG)
- All On – an impact investment firm supporting energy access
- Daystar Power – a solar power provider for West African businesses
Senior government officials, including the Minister of State for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, toured Shell’s booth alongside regulators and SPE leadership.
Driving Energy Progress in Nigeria
Abidemi Belgore, Senior Production Geologist at SNEPCo, said Shell’s commitment to Nigeria spans over six decades.
“We’ve pioneered oil and gas development in this country — from onshore to deep-water,” Belgore said. “Our focus remains on using technology and talent to build a resilient, sustainable energy future.”
Commitment to Shared Prosperity
Shell highlighted its long-term impact through job creation, contract awards to local businesses, and corporate social investments in health and education.
“The SPE conference is a key moment to reaffirm our trust in Nigeria’s potential,” de Jong added. “We continue to build partnerships that drive growth and opportunity.”
