By NaijaEnquirer Staff
The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has said the National Energy Masterplan Implementation Committee (NEMIC) will ensure mechanisms are in place for every Nigerian, regardless of location or income, to access affordable and reliable energy.
Blueprint for Energy Security
Speaking at the inauguration of NEMIC in Abuja, Nnaji described the National Energy Masterplan as a comprehensive blueprint approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) that charts Nigeria’s path towards a secure, diversified, and sustainable energy future.
He noted that the plan outlines a clear strategy for strengthening energy security, expanding the energy mix, accelerating the adoption of clean technologies, and aligning Nigeria’s development agenda with global sustainability and climate action commitments.
Committee’s Mandate
Nnaji congratulated members of the newly inaugurated committee and tasked them to deploy expertise, vision, and commitment to deliver on their mandate. “This is not just about policy—it is about ensuring Nigerians have equitable access to energy that powers growth and prosperity,” he said.
Solving Energy Insecurity
The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, said the Masterplan was conceived to address energy insecurity, high business costs, and limited national potential caused by energy shortages. He stressed that its approval by the FEC underscores its importance as a solution framework.
Pathway to Industrialisation
Co-Chairman of NEMIC, Nurudeen Yakubu, described the initiative as a significant opportunity for Nigeria to achieve its goal of affordable and reliable energy, which is critical to stimulating industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
