NCDMB Commends EFCC for Recovering Oil & Gas Industry Funds

Anti-Graft Agency Helps Enforce Compliance with Nigerian Content Law

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has applauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for recovering unremitted funds from oil and gas operators in Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit to the EFCC Port Harcourt Zonal Office, Maureen Obukofe representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe praised the Commission’s efforts in supporting the Board’s mandate to enforce local content compliance.

“Over time, we realised that most of these operators were not remitting this one percent,” Obukofe said. “There’s no agency better equipped and statutorily empowered than the EFCC to help us recover these outstanding remittances.”

She explained that the collaboration between both bodies began in 2019, when it became clear that many industry players were flouting the law requiring them to remit one percent of every contract to the NCDMB. The EFCC has since helped recover some of the funds, with more expected.

EFCC: Appreciation Is a Rare Gesture

Responding to the delegation, EFCC Port Harcourt’s Acting Zonal Director, Hassan Saidu, expressed surprise and gratitude for the show of appreciation.

“Barrister Maureen, we are very grateful for your visit. In fact, if every organization will do what you have done, it will motivate us more,” Saidu said. “This is a rare gesture, and we deeply appreciate it.”

He assured the NCDMB of continued collaboration, saying the Commission will remain committed to recovering all due funds and ensuring compliance in the sector.
