The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has expanded its capacity-building mandate beyond the oil and gas industry, introducing a specialised Training of Police Trainers program on ICT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and digital skills. The initiative is designed to equip law enforcement personnel with advanced competencies essential for enhancing national security and driving socio-economic progress.

The intensive programme, launched in Calabar, Cross River State, is facilitated by Dexterous Applied Training Institute and focuses on boosting digital literacy, AI awareness, and ICT problem-solving abilities among police instructors.

Strengthening Security Through Digital Capacity

Representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Board’s Supervisor for Government Relations, Mr. Teddy Bai, emphasised the strategic importance of the initiative, noting that technological capacity is crucial in modern policing.

“In today’s digital age, ICT skills are essential for law enforcement agencies to effectively combat crime and maintain public safety. This training reflects NCDMB’s unwavering commitment to capacity development and innovation, not just within the oil and gas industry, but across critical sectors that impact national growth and stability,” Bai said.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the Nigerian Content 10-Year Strategic Roadmap, which prioritises technology-driven skills transfer, innovation, and digital inclusion across Nigeria’s workforce.

Boosting National Security and Digital Readiness

Bai explained that integrating ICT and AI into law enforcement has become indispensable, stressing that the programme is designed to enhance intelligence-led policing and protect critical national and energy infrastructure.

“As the world transitions to digital economies, integrating ICT and artificial intelligence into law enforcement is no longer optional — it is fundamental to protecting lives, investments, and critical energy infrastructure,” he added.

He also noted that the training supports inter-agency collaboration and capacity strengthening for smarter policing across Nigeria’s oil-producing regions and beyond.

Participants Commend Forward-Looking Initiative

Police officers participating in the training expressed appreciation to NCDMB and Dexterous Applied Training Institute, acknowledging the programme’s importance in tackling contemporary security threats.

They highlighted the growing role of technology in combating cybercrime, oil theft, terrorism financing, and other forms of modern criminal activity.

“This program is timely and transformative. It will help us understand how to use ICT tools and AI to prevent and investigate crimes more effectively,” one participant stated.

Commitment to Innovation and Human Capital Development

Also in attendance, Mr. Prince Foncha, Officer, Corporate Communications, NCDMB, reiterated the Board’s dedication to driving digital transformation and nationwide capacity development.

“Together, we are building a more secure, digitally skilled, and prosperous Nigeria,” he said, highlighting the Board’s focus on innovation, knowledge transfer, and long-term economic resilience.

The initiative forms part of NCDMB’s ongoing investment in cross-sectoral digital transformation, reinforcing Nigeria’s push toward technology-enabled security frameworks and enhanced national competitiveness.
