Port Harcourt — As Nigeria’s most ambitious gas infrastructure project nears completion, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited have launched a new phase of hands-on training for 140 graduates under the Train 7 Human Capital Development Programme.
The trainees, who recently completed a 12-month foundational course in oil and gas disciplines, are now entering an intensive 3-month on-the-job training phase at NLNG’s Bonny Island plant in Rivers State. The $10 billion Train 7 Project, now 80% complete, is expected to redefine Nigeria’s LNG output and capacity.
🔎 What’s the Story?
The Advanced Nigerian Content Human Capital Development (NC-HCD) Programme was inaugurated this week with a focus on technical specializations including Turn Around Maintenance (TAM), commissioning, and real-time desktop engineering applications.
The initiative builds on earlier batches:
- 331 trainees under Batch A began in November 2024, training in engineering, HSE, QA/QC, welding, ICT, and more.
- 77 others in Batch B focused on data analytics, supply chain, and emerging digital skills.
“This programme is more than a milestone. It reflects our joint commitment to building world-class Nigerian professionals who will shape the future of our oil and gas industry,” said NCDMB’s HCD Manager, Mrs. Tarilate Teide-Bribena.
Why It Matters
The Train 7 project is not just about infrastructure—it’s a launchpad for deepening Nigeria’s local workforce capacity, especially as the sector demands higher specialization in advanced gas technology.
With 80% of the physical project completed, the demand for job-ready technical talent is surging—and this programme ensures that young Nigerians are ready to plug in.
“This is a reaffirmation of NLNG’s unwavering commitment to human capital development,” said NLNG’s GM of External Relations, Dr. Sophia Horsfall.
