Nigeria, in collaboration with other African nations, has launched the African Petroleum Regulators Forum (AFRIPERF), a continental platform aimed at harmonising oil and gas regulations, enhancing transparency, and attracting investment across Africa’s energy sector.
Launch and Endorsements
The forum was formally unveiled in Accra during the signing of its charter on the sidelines of Africa Oil Week. Sixteen countries participated, with eight — including Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, Gambia, Madagascar, Sudan, Guinea, and Togo — formally endorsing the charter. Seven additional countries pledged support pending domestic consultations.
Leadership and Vision
The signing ceremony was chaired by Gbenga Komolafe, Commission Chief Executive (CCE) of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), who will serve as interim chairman of the forum.
“This is a decisive step toward building a harmonised and sustainable petroleum industry in Africa,”Komolafe said, stressing that AFRIPERF will help manage Africa’s hydrocarbon resources with innovation, responsibility, and foresight.

AFRIPERF is designed to serve as Africa’s leading platform for regulatory cooperation, knowledge sharing, and investment promotion. Its mission includes creating uniform standards, boosting transparency, and tackling cross-border challenges such as gas trade, emissions control, and digitalisation.
The forum will be governed by an executive committee of regulatory heads, supported by a technical committee of experts and a rotating secretariat. Elections for the forum’s
