Nigeria and Egypt have entered high-level discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sector, with both countries seeking to build a partnership that promotes economic growth and regional energy integration.
Bilateral Talks at Gastech 2025
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, on the sidelines of the Gastech 2025 Conference in Milan, Italy. Their meeting focused on joint investment opportunities, exchange of technical expertise, and collaboration on liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects and infrastructure.
Expanding Investment Opportunities
Discussions included the potential for Egyptian petroleum companies to expand operations in Nigeria, particularly in infrastructure development and project execution. Both ministers agreed that stronger collaboration would benefit not only their countries but also the wider African energy landscape.
Commitment to Regional Cooperation
Minister Badawi underscored Egypt’s commitment to deepening partnerships with African nations, noting that enhanced cooperation in exploration, production, and infrastructure serves mutual interests and strengthens regional energy security. Minister Ekpo praised Egypt’s achievements in energy infrastructure, emphasizing Nigeria’s interest in leveraging Egyptian expertise in capacity-building and training programs.
Shared Vision for Africa’s Energy Future
The talks concluded with both countries pledging to continue consultations and coordination. As two of Africa’s largest oil and gas producers, Nigeria and Egypt are strategically positioned to lead regional energy integration. Egypt’s experience in developing pipelines, LNG facilities, and export terminals provides a valuable model for cooperation with Nigeria.
LNG and Global Market Potential
Both nations highlighted the significant potential of the LNG sector for joint projects that could boost Africa’s natural gas exports to international markets. The partnership aims to reinforce Africa’s role as a key player in the global energy industry.
