The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime sector by prioritizing stakeholder engagement as a cornerstone for growth and sustainability.
During a courtesy visit by the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (SSACFA) to the Council’s headquarters in Lagos, the Executive Secretary and CEO of NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah, emphasized the importance of active collaboration. He assured stakeholders that the Council is committed not only to regulation but also to listening and addressing their concerns to ensure shared progress.
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council is ready to work closely with stakeholders, listen intently, and provide solutions that will move the maritime industry forward,
Akutah stated, highlighting dialogue as a strategic step to strengthen partnerships and deliver on the Council’s mandate.
Adding perspective, Mr. Celestine Akujobi, Director of the NSC’s Consumer Affairs Department, underscored the Council’s track record of impactful collaborations, citing the Memorandum of Understanding with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria that established minimum wage standards for workers—an achievement hailed as a milestone in protecting labor rights.
In response, SSACFA President General, Harrison Ugochukwu, praised the NSC’s vital role as Nigeria’s port economic regulator and called for continued collaboration. He stressed the need for NSC’s guidance and regulatory support to advance the growth of the maritime industry.
The engagement between NSC and SSACFA highlights a collective resolve to build a maritime ecosystem founded on partnership, open communication, and mutual support. With this renewed commitment, industry leaders see an optimistic pathway for Nigeria’s maritime sector.
