Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has announced that artificial intelligence (AI) will play a central role in its operations, boosting efficiency, safety, and sustainability across its value chain.
Speaking at the Gastech 2025 Conference in Milan, NLNG’s Deputy Managing Director, Olakunle Osobu, said the company is embedding AI into its business processes to remain competitive while reinforcing its “Goal Zero” safety aspirations.
“Artificial intelligence is no longer a concept of tomorrow; it is today’s driver of efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in the energy sector. At NLNG, we’re embedding AI across our value chain to ensure our business is future-ready,” Osobu stated.
AI Driving Safety and Performance
According to Osobu, AI is significantly improving safety performance and operational efficiency. He noted that virtual reality tools and AI-powered agents are already being used to accelerate staff onboarding and enhance knowledge retention. Additionally, smart cameras and satellite technologies are enabling advanced visual analytics for better monitoring of operations and compliance.
“Process automation and predictive maintenance tools are enhancing production reliability, while AI-driven optimisation is strengthening emissions monitoring to support our energy transition commitments,” he added.
Integration and Workforce Development
Osobu emphasised that integration is key, explaining that embedding AI into existing platforms unlocks predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance strategies that keep assets running at peak performance.
He also disclosed that NLNG has established a Centre of Excellence to upskill its workforce and ensure AI adoption aligns with business needs. “At NLNG, we take a value-first approach, upskilling staff through our Centre of Excellence to align AI with business needs for real value delivery,” he said.
Championing Innovation in LNG
NLNG stated that its AI agenda is part of a broader strategy to champion innovation in the global LNG market while supporting energy transition goals. The company’s participation at Gastech 2025, Osobu noted, underscores its leadership role in shaping conversations about the future of energy and its commitment to harnessing technology for sustainable growth.
