The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has commissioned a state-of-the-art ICT Centre and upgraded learning facility at Baptist High School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The initiative aims to strengthen human capacity and promote technology-driven education across Nigeria.

The project, supervised by NCDMB’s Institutional Strengthening Division, marks another milestone under the Federal Government’s Human Capacity Development framework, in accordance with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010.

Partnership for Sustainable Development

Representing NCDMB’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the General Manager, Infrastructure and Capacity Building, Mr. Olugbenga Sheba, emphasized that the collaboration between NCDMB and NLNG demonstrates their shared commitment to sustainability, education, and technology advancement.

“This project exemplifies what can be achieved through meaningful partnerships between government institutions and corporate organizations,” Sheba said. “Through this initiative, NLNG has once again demonstrated its unwavering support for Nigerian Content Development and the vision that drives it.”

He noted that the remodeled facility and ICT Centre will greatly enhance the teaching and learning experience at Baptist High School, giving students access to digital tools that foster innovation, creativity, and digital literacy.

Building Local Capacity and Innovation

Sheba reaffirmed NCDMB’s mandate to deepen local participation in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector through indigenous capacity development. “Our responsibility is to ensure Nigerians are not just consumers but active participants — innovators, service providers, and contributors to the nation’s industrial growth,” he explained.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, commended NCDMB for its collaboration, describing it as a reflection of the synergy required to build a sustainable future for Nigerian youths.

“This initiative aligns perfectly with NLNG’s long-standing dedication to human capital development and sustainability,” Horsfall stated. “Since the commencement of our operations in 1999, NLNG has continually invested in capacity development through scholarship schemes that support thousands of young Nigerians at all levels of education.”

Empowering the Next Generation

Horsfall also highlighted NLNG’s Enterprise Development Programme, which provides training, mentorship, and capital support for emerging entrepreneurs, alongside ongoing investments in education and healthcare through the Universities Support and Hospital Support Programmes.

“We believe that sustainable progress begins with empowered people. Our goal is to build human capacity that drives innovation and development in Nigeria,” she added.

The commissioning ceremony drew representatives from both NLNG and NCDMB, staff and students of Baptist High School, and members of the host community. It concluded with a group photograph and a guided tour of the newly equipped ICT Centre — a facility that stands as a beacon of digital transformation and inclusive education in Rivers State.
