NNPCL Boss Ojulari Attends Official Assignment Amid Resignation Rumours

Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engr. Bayo Ojulari, has made a public appearance amid swirling rumours of his resignation.

Ojulari attended an official assignment virtually on Monday, participating in an event organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Nigerian Council. A video of his appearance was seen by reporters, confirming his continued engagement in official duties.

The development comes amid widespread media speculation that Ojulari had been compelled to resign following corruption allegations and alleged pressure from anti-graft agencies. However, there has been no official statement from the Presidency or NNPCL to confirm or deny the claims.

Ojulari’s last known physical appearance was at a town hall meeting with NNPCL staff at the company’s headquarters in Abuja, where he addressed workforce concerns and reviewed ongoing projects.

100 Days in Office: NNPCL Highlights Key Milestones

Coinciding with the controversy, NNPCL rolled out a performance review to mark Ojulari’s first 100 days in office, which began on 2 April 2025 following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

According to the company, Ojulari has recorded major wins across key operational and governance areas. These include:

  • Strengthened collaboration with upstream partners
  • Growth in oil and gas production volumes
  • 100% pipeline availability to secure revenue flows
  • Progress in refinery rehabilitation projects
  • Advancements in corporate transparency and employee welfare

In a social media post celebrating the milestone, NNPCL stated: “We are pleased to announce a key milestone as NNPC Ltd. progresses under the leadership of the Group CEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari. The report card is out, and the first 100 days of the Group CEO is a testament to steadfast commitment and forward movement.”

Context and Reactions

Ojulari replaced Mele Kyari as part of a sweeping reform initiated by President Tinubu to reposition the state-owned oil giant. His tenure has since been marked by aggressive reforms, renewed stakeholder engagement, and heightened scrutiny.

While civil society groups have called for investigations into alleged financial misdeeds involving NNPCL, others, including energy sector watchdogs, have defended the leadership’s reform agenda and called for political neutrality in ongoing probes.

Ojulari’s latest appearance may help temper speculations, but observers await further clarity from official quarters as public interest in the matter grows.
