The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance refinery upgrades, strengthen process safety, and drive industrial growth in Nigeria’s energy sector.
The agreement was formalized during a meeting at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, where NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, hosted the NSChE delegation led by its National President, Engr. Olarewaju-Alo B. Olumuyiwa.
Ojulari noted that the collaboration aligns with NNPCL’s mission to improve operational safety, boost refinery efficiency, and deliver sustainable energy solutions. “The expertise of the chemical engineering community is invaluable in solving complex industry challenges. Together, we can enhance refining capacity, ensure safer operations, and foster Nigeria’s industrial development,” he said.
Olumuyiwa highlighted the NSChE’s Process Safety Initiative of Nigeria (PSIN), designed to minimize operational risks in the oil and gas sector. “Safety is the foundation for sustainable operations. This partnership will bridge the gap between academia and industry while building the next generation of engineering talent,” he stated.
The discussions also explored local capacity development, the creation of innovation hubs, and joint technical projects to advance Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more efficient energy systems.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering long-term value for the energy sector, the engineering profession, and the Nigerian economy.
