NNPCL, Heirs Energies Sustain Gas Supply to Geometric Power

Heirs Energies, in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has continued to sustain gas supply to Geometric Power, resulting in another 45 days of uninterrupted electricity supply within the Aba Power network area of Abia State.
Aba Power Electricity Limited, which serves nine out of the 17 local government areas in Abia State under the Aba Ring-fence, has maintained consistent power supply, a development that has been widely commended by electricity consumers and business operators in the Southeast region.
Consumers Commend Continuous Power Supply
In a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, the Southeast zone of the Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria (ECAN) praised the milestone, describing it as a model for Nigeria’s electricity industry.
“As Geometric Power Ltd, the owner and operator of the 188-megawatt thermal plant in the Osisioma Industrial Layout of Aba, marks yet another 45 days of uninterrupted electricity, we commend Aba Power for delivering the entire electricity generated by the plant to our people and industries faithfully,” the association said.
The statement, signed by ECAN Chairman, Engr. Joe Ubani, and Secretary, Comrade Chris Okpara, attributed the achievement to the steady natural gas supply from Heirs Energies and NNPCL to the Geometric Power Plant.
“Our investigation shows that gas supply has been steady,” the statement added. “This demonstrates that Heirs Energies, in partnership with NNPCL, has effectively managed operations since taking over Oil Mining Lease (OML) 17 from The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).”
Reliable Gas Supply Strengthens Aba’s Power Network
Heirs Energies supplies gas to the 188MW Geometric Power Plant from its facilities in Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, through a 27-kilometre gas pipeline constructed by the Geometric Power Group at a cost of $50 million.
According to ECAN, the gas facilities had suffered technical depreciation before Heirs Energies and NNPCL’s acquisition due to SPDC’s halted investments amid legal disputes with the Federal Government over lease renewal.
“We are delighted that Heirs Energies, alongside NNPCL, is building capabilities that demonstrate what Nigerian companies and professionals can achieve when given the opportunity,” ECAN added.
Calls for National Adoption of Geometric Model
The association also commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for acknowledging the progress recorded in Aba’s power sector, quoting him as saying that “in Aba, we have gone beyond this problem,” referring to the city’s improved electricity stability.
ECAN further called on the Federal Government to adopt the Geometric Power model as a blueprint for achieving nationwide power stability, while commending the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, for aligning with reforms aimed at ensuring reliable electricity across the country.
