The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable practices in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector through its active participation at the 14th Annual International Summit and Fellows General Assembly of the College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology (COGET).

The summit was held at the Auditorium of Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, and brought together industry experts, professionals, academics and stakeholders across various oil and gas-related disciplines.

In recognition of NOSDRA’s critical regulatory role in the oil and gas industry and the exemplary leadership of its Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, the agency was invited as a special guest speaker at the event. The Director-General/Chief Executive was represented at the summit by Mr. Mohammed Suleman Gumsuri of the Oil Field Assessment Department.

The high-profile gathering also featured the induction and official oath-taking ceremony for graduating fellows of the College, celebrating their professional achievements and commitment to ethical practice within the industry.

As part of the summit proceedings, NOSDRA delivered a technical presentation titled “Effects of Environmental Degradation in the Sub-Saharan Region.” The presentation highlighted the environmental and socio-economic impacts of oil pollution and other forms of environmental degradation across the region.

The agency emphasized the need for stronger regulatory frameworks, enhanced stakeholder collaboration and the adoption of sustainable remediation strategies to mitigate environmental damage and protect host communities.

Beyond technical discussions, the summit served as a platform for knowledge exchange and policy dialogue aimed at promoting best practices, innovation and sustainability in the oil and gas sector.

The College of Oil and Gas Exploration Technology expressed appreciation to NOSDRA and its management for honoring the invitation and contributing meaningfully to the success of the summit through insightful participation and technical input, which further enriched deliberations at the event.
