The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, has reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to strengthening maritime judicial capacity, while appreciating the National Judicial Institute (NJI) for its consistent support.

Dr. Akutah made this known during a courtesy visit to the Administrator of the NJI, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adejumo, in Abuja, where he led a delegation of senior management staff of the Council.

According to him, the visit aimed to reinforce the long-standing partnership between both institutions and ensure Nigeria’s judiciary remains well-equipped to handle emerging complexities within maritime and Blue Economy activities.

He highlighted the significance of the NSC–NJI partnership, which has spanned over three decades, stressing that as Nigeria expands its marine and blue economy agenda, the role of a knowledgeable and forward-thinking judiciary is indispensable.

The NSC boss also referenced the upcoming 2026 Maritime Seminar for Judges, which will provide a platform for judges, arbitrators, and regulators to exchange ideas and advance maritime jurisprudence.

In his remarks, the NJI Administrator, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, welcomed the NSC delegation and praised the cordial, productive collaboration that has existed for years.

He further advocated extending NSC-organised training programmes to court registrars, describing them as essential to the efficiency of judicial processes. He reaffirmed the Institute’s readiness to support current and future NSC initiatives.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to promote judicial education, improve maritime dispute resolution, and strengthen national economic growth through enhanced regulatory and adjudicatory frameworks.
