The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engr. Bayo Ojulari, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) as a beacon of governance, performance, transparency, and sustainability in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Ojulari gave this assurance during a working visit to the NLNG plant in Bonny Island, Rivers State, where he pledged NNPCL’s long-term partnership in advancing NLNG’s growth and operational excellence.

“This engagement has allowed us to connect with the team, assess operational progress, and identify opportunities to enhance plant availability, revenue generation, and continuous improvement for the nation,” Ojulari said.

Driving the Future of Gas and Energy Transition

He further revealed that NNPCL is pursuing a dynamic Gas Master Plan and exploring hydrogen collaborations with NLNG in preparation for a net-zero energy future.

Welcoming the NNPCL boss, Philip Mshelbila, NLNG’s Managing Director and CEO, praised NNPCL’s role as a dependable shareholder, noting its contribution to securing the gas value chain and supporting the company through recent challenges.

“Nigeria urgently needs deliberate investment in the gas sector to stabilise supply, de-risk critical infrastructure, and unlock upstream opportunities. These steps are vital to sustain growth momentum and enhance competitiveness in the global energy marketplace,” Mshelbila said.

Government’s Call for Stronger Gas Investment

Dr. Emeka Vitalis, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, highlighted NLNG’s strategic role as both an enabler of energy transition and a stabilising pillar of Nigeria’s economy.

He stressed the importance of Train 7 in expanding export capacity, while urging the company to maintain strong asset integrity and pursue zero emissions across its operations.

Tour of Key Facilities

Ojulari and his delegation toured major operational facilities, including the main plant complex and the Train 7 expansion project, which is projected to significantly boost production capacity.

The NNPCL chief was accompanied by top executives, including Olalekan Ogunleye (EVP, Gas, Power & New Energy), Adesua Dozie (Company Secretary & General Counsel), and Salihu Jamari (Chief Gas Power Investment Officer).

They were received by NLNG executives led by Philip Mshelbila, alongside Nnamdi Anowi (GM, Production), Sophia Horsfall (GM, External Relations & Sustainable Development), Aka Nwokedi (General Counsel), Fatima Adanan (GM, Finance), and Ekeinde Ohiwerei (GM, Corporate Services).

Bottom Line: Ojulari’s Bonny Island visit reinforces NNPCL’s alignment with NLNG’s long-term sustainability agenda. With initiatives such as Train 7, gas expansion, and hydrogen exploration, both companies are positioning Nigeria as a competitive force in the evolving global energy market.
