The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing rehabilitation of the Eleme–East West Road in Rivers State, following a recent inspection by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi.

PETROAN noted that the project represents a major stride in strengthening the road infrastructure vital to Nigeria’s petroleum products logistics and overall downstream operations.

In a statement signed by Dr. Joseph Obele, the National PRO of PETROAN, on behalf of the National President, Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, the Association emphasized that the rehabilitation works align with its goals of improving the safe and efficient movement of petroleum products across the country.

According to Dr. Gillis-Harry, the road expansion includes the construction of two additional flyovers and enhanced road networks that will support the heavy-duty truck operations essential to the oil and gas sector.

During his visit, Minister Umahi directed Reynolds Construction Company Limited (RCC) to ensure the completion of the project by March 2026. He also ordered the immediate installation of solar streetlights from Eleme Junction to the Trailer Park to improve road safety and sustainability.

Umahi further approved the implementation of double-lane solar streetlights along the corridor to enhance visibility and environmental efficiency.

PETROAN disclosed that the Minister also pledged to collaborate with the Association in developing a vast trailer park facility that will serve trucks operating around Indorama, Port Harcourt Refinery, and the NPA Onne Wharf — an initiative projected to ease traffic congestion and improve logistics coordination.

Dr. Gillis-Harry revealed that the trailer park will accommodate up to 5,000 trucks and is expected to create over 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while also boosting hospitality and ancillary services within the Eleme–Ogoni axis.

“The development of this park and the upgraded road network will greatly enhance the efficiency of petroleum product distribution while promoting economic growth and reducing traffic hazards,” he said.

He added that a special task force would be inaugurated to ensure compliance with parking regulations after the completion of the road, thereby improving traffic flow and road safety.

PETROAN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government efforts in improving infrastructure, stressing that projects like the Eleme–East West Road rehabilitation are crucial to sustaining Nigeria’s energy logistics framework and enhancing the ease of doing business within the downstream sector.
