The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has projected that gas distribution across the Niger Delta and the wider South–South region will receive a major boost — with potential reductions in gas prices — following the completion and inauguration of the Bonny–Port Harcourt Road by the Federal Government.

The association said the long-awaited road project will improve logistical efficiency, reduce operating costs for its members, and enhance the performance of the downstream sector. PETROAN commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for delivering a project that had remained elusive for several administrations.

National President of PETROAN, Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, described the completion of the road as a generational achievement, noting that it opens new economic corridors and improves access to one of Nigeria’s most critical oil and gas hubs.

Dr. Gillis-Harry stated that with the new infrastructure now operational, the cost of transporting gas is expected to decline due to easier logistics, reduced delays, and lower haulage expenses, which will ultimately bring relief to households, industries, commercial operators, and power-generation firms nationwide.

He attributed part of the project’s success to the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, whom he praised for his engineering expertise, direct supervision, and disciplined project management. According to him, Senator Umahi’s approach has set a new benchmark for road construction in the country.

With improved access now guaranteed, PETROAN says petroleum products and gas transported by truck will reach Bonny Island seamlessly, strengthening both domestic supply and industrial operations.

PETROAN reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Federal Government to maximize the economic, social, and industrial benefits of the landmark road project for generations to come.
