Governor Douye Diri has announced the procurement of a 60-megawatt gas turbine, describing it as a landmark achievement as Bayelsa State marks its 29th anniversary.

In a statewide broadcast that coincided with Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, the governor said the turbine would guarantee round-the-clock power supply, create jobs, and spur economic growth across the state.

Governor Diri congratulated President Bola Tinubu and citizens nationwide, expressing optimism that the future of Bayelsa is set for accelerated transformation.

Infrastructure Milestones

The governor highlighted major projects under his administration, including the ongoing construction of a nine-storey State Secretariat Complex aimed at improving administrative efficiency. He also pointed to the 25,000-capacity stadium under development, which he said would boost youth development and raise Bayelsa’s profile nationally and internationally.

Education and Human Capital Development

On education, Diri celebrated the state’s improved performance in NECO examinations and announced the establishment of science and vocational colleges in all local government areas. These, he noted, will equip Bayelsa’s youth with the skills needed for a modern economy.

Unity and Reflection

Encouraging citizens to reflect on the state’s journey since creation, Governor Diri called for renewed unity, diligence, and optimism. He affirmed that Bayelsa’s best years lie ahead, anchored on infrastructure, education, and sustainable growth.

“As we celebrate Bayelsa at 29 and Nigeria at 65, let us recommit to building a prosperous, peaceful, and united state. Together, we can shape a brighter future,” the governor said.
