President Tinubu Dismisses Claims of Religious Genocide, Reaffirms National Unity
By NaijaEnquirer Staff
President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that no religion is under siege in the country, rejecting claims of religious genocide as unfounded and misleading. He emphasized that Nigerians remain committed to harmony, shared prosperity, and unity in diversity.
Unity in Diversity
Speaking in Owerri, Imo State, during the unveiling of a book authored by Governor Hope Uzodimma on ten years of APC governance, President Tinubu underscored Nigeria’s progress since independence. “Our churches, mosques, and traditional shrines stand side by side – not as rivals, but as symbols of the unity that binds us,” he said.
He stressed that outsiders cannot define Nigeria’s identity or sow division among its people. “We must never allow outsiders to tell us who we are. Our diversity is not our weakness, but our strength. When Nigeria stands united, no falsehood can prosper against her,” Tinubu declared.
Showcasing APC Achievements
The President highlighted APC’s impact since coming to power in 2015, pointing to infrastructure investments, anti-terrorism efforts, and accountability reforms under former President Muhammadu Buhari. “Nigeria is no longer where it was ten years ago. We promised a change, and I can confidently tell you the worst is over,” he said.
He acknowledged challenges and mistakes along the way but insisted the APC had steered Nigeria away from collapse. “APC may not be perfect, but we are purposeful. We will not allow Nigeria to return to the wasted years of drift,” Tinubu said.
Economic Outlook and Regional Inclusion
The President assured that the outlook for the economy is improving under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, particularly in the South-East. “No part of Nigeria will be abandoned. The South-East is not on the margins; you are at the centre of our national rebirth,” he told the crowd at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Convention Centre.
He added that regional development commissions and accountability frameworks are being put in place to ensure sustainable growth. “Nigerians have the right to hold leaders accountable at every level, and as leaders, we have the duty to deliver,” he said.
Support from National Assembly and Governors
Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Tinubu for initiatives such as the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has expanded access to education for underprivileged youths. He also commended investments in agriculture and food security.
Governor Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, acknowledged that states had benefited from increased federal allocations under Tinubu’s administration. He credited the President’s bold policies with stabilizing the economy and enabling projects in infrastructure, health, and education. “Your consistency in Nigeria’s political trajectory made APC possible, and that inspired me to document these achievements in my book A Decade of Leadership in Nigeria,” he said.
High-Profile Attendance
The event was attended by prominent political leaders, including APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, former party chairmen Adams Oshiomhole and Umar Ganduje, former Senate Presidents Pius Anyim and Ahmad Lawan, and traditional, religious, and community leaders. Members of the diplomatic corps, student unions, and market associations were also present.
Commissioning of Infrastructure
President Tinubu also commissioned key projects in Imo State, including the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia Road, the Assumpta Twin Flyover, and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Convention Centre, further demonstrating the federal government’s commitment to infrastructure and development.
Looking Ahead
President Tinubu reiterated his government’s focus on unity, progress, and resilience. “Our duty is to stand guard over our unity, protect every citizen, and prove to the world that our diversity is our strength. So help us God,” he concluded.
