The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

The development occurred during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, on Thursday.

According to a live broadcast on Channels Television, the Majority Leader of the House, Major Jack, read out a notice of allegations and claims of gross misconduct leveled against Governor Fubara.

The notice, which was signed by 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was presented as being in line with constitutional provisions guiding impeachment proceedings.

Speaker Amaewhule stated that the notice of allegations would be formally served on Governor Fubara within the next seven days.

In a similar move, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Linda Stewart, read out the notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Oduh.

The impeachment process marks a significant escalation in the political tension within Rivers State, as both the governor and his deputy now face formal legislative scrutiny.
