Shell Nurtures Africa’s Future Energy Leaders

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing the continent’s next generation of energy leaders by hosting 25 young professionals from across Africa at its Lagos offices.

Young Professionals From Eight Countries

The engineers and geologists, drawn from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Angola, and Uganda, were in Nigeria for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE). The group visited SNEPCo on 5 August to gain first-hand insight into the company’s operations.

SNEPCo, which put Nigeria on the global deep-water map in 2005 with the launch of the Bonga field, shared its expertise in deep-water oil and gas production with the visitors.

Encouraging Talent and Career Growth

Welcoming the group on behalf of Managing Director Ronald Adams, General Manager Emerging Projects, Olaposi Fadahunsi, highlighted Shell’s scholarship and sponsorship programmes with SPE. He encouraged the young professionals to seize opportunities to advance their careers.

“Your future in the energy industry will be shaped by the skills you build now. Shell will continue to provide platforms to help you grow,” Fadahunsi said.

Insights From Industry Leaders

During the visit, the group received briefings on production optimisation, digitalisation, automation, proactive reservoir management, field safety, and front-end planning. General Manager Deepwater Oil Portfolio, Iyke Nnoaham, spoke on career growth and strategic decision-making in the energy sector.

Participants described the sessions as “engaging and inspiring,” praising the practical insights shared by SNEPCo’s leadership.

Longstanding Commitment to Skills Development

SNEPCo’s support for young talent extends beyond conferences. Through the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), the company offers six-month internships to Nigerian undergraduates. The current batch of 28 interns from 17 universities is deployed across operational units, gaining hands-on experience and building professional networks.
