President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed relief over the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists in Maga, Kebbi State last Monday.
The abduction took place at dawn on November 17, shortly after a military patrol team departed the area, giving terrorists the opportunity to strike and whisk the students away.
The incident sparked a wave of similar kidnappings in other parts of the country, including Eruku in Kwara State and Papiri in Niger State, reigniting concerns over school safety in vulnerable communities.
On Sunday, all 38 kidnapped residents in Eruku regained their freedom. Also on the same day, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State confirmed that 50 of the missing students from the Catholic School in Niger had returned home to their parents.
President Tinubu commended security agencies for their coordinated efforts leading to the successful rescue operations.
He further charged the forces to intensify searches and operations aimed at rescuing those still held captive in various parts of the country.
“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must put as a matter of urgency more boots on the ground in the vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this,” President Tinubu said.
The president emphasized that his administration remains fully committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens and preventing future attacks on schools and communities.
