By NaijaEnquirer Staff
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has initiated a sweeping leadership shake-up at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Nigeria’s largest state broadcaster, appointing renowned media strategist Rotimi Richard Pedro as the new Director-General.
The announcement also comes with the appointment of Karimah Bello as Executive Director of Marketing, Stella Din as Executive Director of News, and Sophia Essahmed as Managing Director of NTA Enterprises Limited, marking a decisive step toward modernising NTA’s operations.
Pedro’s Track Record in Media Excellence
Hailing from Lagos, Pedro boasts nearly 30 years of experience in broadcasting, sports rights, and marketing communications across Africa, the UK, and the Middle East. A trained entertainment and intellectual property lawyer, he also holds an MSc in Investment Management & Finance from City University Business School, London.
In 1995, he founded Optima Sports Management International (OSMI), a leading sports content provider in Africa, which distributed premium global events such as the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and CAF competitions to audiences in over 40 countries.
Pedro’s career spans senior roles at Bloomberg Television Africa and Rapid Blue Format, along with consultancy projects for FIFA, UEFA, Fremantle Media, and the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB)—including helping the AUB secure exclusive pan-African broadcast rights for CAF tournaments.
A New Era for NTA
Industry insiders say Pedro’s appointment reflects the Federal Government’s ambition to transform NTA into a competitive, commercially viable, and technologically advanced broadcaster. His expertise in building revenue streams, securing sponsorship deals, and delivering premium content could be pivotal in reshaping NTA’s future.
This leadership change stands as one of the most significant in recent years and underscores President Tinubu’s push for innovation and global standards in Nigeria’s media industry.
