President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has tasked the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to continue prioritizing transformative projects that empower youth, uplift communities, and bring hope to the Niger Delta region.

The President, represented by Chief Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, gave the charge during the 50th birthday celebration of NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku and the public presentation of his two books: Strategies and Imperative for Developing Niger Delta and Rethinking the Niger Delta in Abuja on Tuesday.

“The Niger Delta is more than a region — it is the economic heartbeat of this country. Our reforms are anchored on transparency, accountability, investment in infrastructure, and empowering grassroots communities for a sustainable future,” Tinubu stated.

Celebrating Service and Scholarship

Commending Ogbuku for his leadership, Tinubu praised him for combining scholarship with public service, noting that his work at NDDC reflects vision, values, and execution. He emphasized that the Niger Delta remains central to Nigeria’s energy and environmental future.

Akpabio Commends Ogbuku’s Leadership

Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded Ogbuku for turning around the fortunes of the NDDC, recalling the completion of the long-abandoned electricity project in Ilaje, Ondo State, which had left communities in darkness for 14 years.

“We are celebrating two years of impactful leadership, collaboration, and focus. You will be remembered not just for this celebration, but for the legacies you leave behind for the people of Niger Delta,” Akpabio said.

Ogbuku Credits Tinubu’s Support

In his remarks, Ogbuku expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to lead NDDC and for inspiring him with what he called a “spark” that has transformed the Commission’s direction.

He recalled Tinubu’s personal interest in NDDC affairs, noting that the President remains attentive to its activities to ensure the Commission delivers on its mandate.

“Whatever we have achieved today at the NDDC, I give the credit to Mr. President. His words gave me the drive to prove that NDDC can work,” Ogbuku said.

Bottom Line: With President Tinubu’s backing and Akpabio’s commendation, the NDDC under Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership is being challenged to deepen its impact across the Niger Delta through projects that foster development, empowerment, and sustainability.
