United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has taken centre stage at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, launching a strategic whitepaper designed to spotlight Africa’s vast economic potential and drive global partnerships for sustainable growth.

Whitepaper on Africa’s Future

The highlight of UBA’s participation was the unveiling of its whitepaper titled “Banking on Africa’s Future: Unlocking Capital and Partnerships for Sustainable Growth.” The report lays out actionable strategies to strengthen trade, infrastructure, digital innovation, climate finance, and inclusive growth across the continent.

According to UBA, the whitepaper is the first of its kind from a leading African financial institution presented at the UNGA, aiming to reposition Africa as a key driver of global prosperity through enhanced collaboration with international stakeholders.

Global Engagements

As part of its UNGA programme, UBA also hosted the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) Roundtable via UBA America, alongside its annual UBA Reception. Both events convened influential world leaders, policymakers, and investors to deliberate on investment opportunities and sustainable development across Africa.

Leadership Commitment

UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, stressed the importance of turning conversations into measurable action. He stated that UBA’s leadership role at UNGA reflects its commitment to advancing real investments that uplift Africa’s economies.

“This year’s discussions are aimed at delivering feasible outcomes, and UBA is committed to ensuring these results are implemented for Africa’s benefit,”
Elumelu said.

Similarly, UBA Group Managing Director and CEO, Oliver Alawuba, underscored the significance of the whitepaper and called on private sector players to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate tangible commitment to Africa’s development.

With over 25,000 employees serving more than 45 million customers, UBA is one of Africa’s largest financial institutions. The bank operates in 20 African countries as well as in the UK, USA, France, and the UAE, providing retail, commercial, and institutional banking services while pioneering financial inclusion through innovative technology.
