Tinubu Declares Total War on Corrupt Officials in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has announced a firm crackdown on corrupt public officials, asserting that there is no hiding place for anyone engaging in graft within his administration. Speaking during the unveiling of the EFCC Zonal Directorate Office Complex in Ado Ekiti, the president, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, reaffirmed the federal government’s determination to strengthen anti-corruption institutions and enforce accountability across all sectors.

Strengthening Anti-Corruption Institutions

Tinubu described the new EFCC facility as a strategic investment in institutional capacity, public trust, and national development. He emphasized that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) plays a crucial role in protecting the nation’s economy and maintaining public confidence in governance.

“The message is clear: there are no hiding places for the corrupt. Nigeria will not tolerate graft, and such conduct will be punished under our laws,” Tinubu stated.

Institutional Support and Operational Capacity

Highlighting the need for strong institutions, Tinubu pledged ongoing support to the EFCC to ensure operational efficiency. He praised Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede and the commission’s officers for their professionalism and persistence in combating economic and financial crimes.

“The fight against corruption cannot succeed through rhetoric alone but requires modern facilities, operational support, and institutional backing,” he said, linking anti-corruption efforts directly to economic recovery and investor confidence.

Recent Successes in Anti-Graft Operations

The president cited recent EFCC achievements, including dismantling a foreign-controlled cryptocurrency syndicate in Lagos and actions against cyber-enabled financial crime and illicit financial flows. He noted that recovered assets from these operations have contributed to social intervention programmes such as the Student Loan Scheme, NELFUND, and CREDICORP.

Commitment to Fiscal and Financial Reforms

Tinubu also underlined the administration’s broader economic objectives, asserting that domestic fiscal reforms and overhauls of the financial system are crucial to removing economic distortions, stabilizing macroeconomic indicators, and restoring investor confidence.

“Nigeria’s future rests on the strength of the institutions we build and the faith we invest in them. No nation can rise above the integrity of its public systems because development is defeated when corruption is allowed to stand between citizens and the promises of the state,” the president declared.

Strategic Role of Anti-Corruption Agencies

The president positioned anti-corruption agencies as strategic partners in achieving the administration’s economic reform and national security goals. By empowering the EFCC with resources, infrastructure, and autonomy, the administration aims to intensify the fight against graft and ensure that all public officials are held accountable.
