Delta Police Arrest Three Suspected Drug Traffickers, Recover Tramadol and Other Substances

Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected drug traffickers in separate intelligence-led operations across the state. The arrests form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the spread of controlled substances.

Major Tramadol Bust on First Niger Bridge

On June 3, operatives of the Special Enquiry Unit intercepted a Mercedes truck at the First Niger Bridge Head, Asaba. The vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Obinna Nwosu from Oba in Anambra State, was reportedly transporting plumbing materials. Upon inspection, police discovered a hidden cache of drugs, including 13,000 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of 225mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of Swinol, 300 sachets of Rohypnol, 60 Codeine Phosphate tablets, and 100 MDMA (Molly) tablets. Nwosu remains in custody while investigations continue to identify other network members.

Raid on Suspected Drug Distribution Hub

On the same day, officers from the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS) conducted a raid on a suspected drug distribution centre at Alegbo Community, Owa-Alero, Ika North East LGA. Two suspects, Henry Edward and Okwudili Kingsley, were arrested. Investigations indicate they were operating a local drug network. Authorities recovered five gallons of fermented cannabis mixture, locally known as “Monkey Tail,” along with other illicit substances.

Police Emphasize Ongoing Crackdown

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their professionalism and effective operations. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to aggressive measures against drug trafficking and organized crime.

Community Cooperation and Public Vigilance

CP Oyeniyi warned that illicit drugs remain a key enabler of violent crime, including cultism, armed robbery, and kidnappings. He urged residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities promptly, emphasizing that community involvement is critical to dismantling criminal networks.
