Nigeria 2027 presidential aspirants: Full list of candidates so far

The race toward the 2027 general elections is becoming increasingly defined as political parties and internal factions unveil their presidential contenders.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has already positioned President Bola Tinubu as its candidate for re-election. Tinubu, who assumed office in 2023, will be seeking another term in power.

In the opposition space, several names have surfaced through different party structures and factional alignments.

Peter Obi has been formally presented as the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after winning its primary election. He reportedly secured a comfortable majority during the delegate voting process.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has also been mentioned by a faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki. However, Jonathan has not publicly confirmed any intention to run.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as a candidate in a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) associated with David Mark. Atiku remains one of the most consistent contenders in Nigeria’s recent presidential elections.

Another faction of the ADC led by Dumebi Kachikwu has also put forward its own candidate, the same Dumebi, further highlighting divisions within the party structure.

Senator Sandy Onor has been linked to a PDP faction supported by Nyesom Wike. He previously served as senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District.

Overall, the developing list reflects a fragmented opposition landscape, with multiple camps positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
